Our Work
RARE VRIENDEN, founded by Eric Smaling and Jonathan Mativo, drives opportunity for young people and women in Kilifi by investing in education, mentorship, and practical skill-building. Through targeted programs that strengthen economic empowerment and community development, the foundation breaks cycles of poverty and equips underprivileged youth, young men, and women with the confidence, tools, and pathways they need to thrive and lead meaningful lives.

A Model Worth Multiplying
RARE VRIENDEN is demonstrating a model worth multiplying—one built on practical education, mentorship, skills training, and economic empowerment initiatives that deliver measurable, lasting change. Its strength lies in its clarity and proven results, strong enough that others are now adopting and expanding it. Our growing partnership with IMARIKA Foundation on the Wezesha Vijana paint program is a direct example of this replication in action, and both Kilifi County and a private investment company have begun raising funds to reproduce the model in additional regions. With your support, we can multiply what works and scale a blueprint that consistently delivers real, sustainable impact.
